Having blogged steadily the old-fashioned way for about 8 years now, I am interested in taking up with vblogging. Can anyone who is a bit more experienced with this please tell me what are the most preferred formats and general preferred resolution for videoblogging?

I am trying to find an affordable consumer camera (Canon maybe or other known brand) that would work with firewire with my Mac but provide me with good res, the right format to post on sites like Blip.tv, YouTube and such and would be good for a semi-knowledgeable DV camera and Mac technology user.

Right now I use my iSight camera, but as it has to be hooked to my laptop, it doesn't give me the mobility I need; plus, it's not very durable for travel either.
